Scriptural Reflection: Tia Adkins.  Tia Adkins is a frequent preacher at Radiance Spiritual Center and the Center for Divine Love.  She also portrays Sojourner Truth in her most famous speech “Ain’t I a Woman,” in support of women’s suffrage.

We will watch the video The 19th Amendment during the meeting and discuss various aspect of this historic event.  We will consider what this means to us today as Christian women.

5/29/20 – Zoom Workshop – Lucky Zip Codes

You are invited to a Zoom Sisters CARE workshop on Friday, May 29 at 7:00 p.m.
We will have the opportunity to discuss a video specifically about St. Louis Lucky Zip Codes.  The presenter is St. Louis area resident Amy Hunter and she has agreed to join us for the discussion. 
 
Here is a link to the TEDx video entitled “Lucky Zip Codes.”  Please watch this 20 minute video in advance of the Zoom meeting.  It was produced in 2016 and takes on renewed urgency with our community experiences with COVID-19. 
 

About Amy Hunter
Amy Hunter is a longtime community activist based in St. Louis, as well as a Global Equity, Diversity and Inclusion leader for Boeing. Previously, she was the manager of diversity and inclusion at St. Louis Children’s Hospital and director of racial justice for the St. Louis YWCA.

Her work has been published in journals and magazines including Essence, where she wrote about the protests in neighboring Ferguson following the death of Michael Brown in 2014.

3/31/20 Workshop – Racial Harmony in the Practice of our Faith

The program is entitled “Racial Harmony in the Practice of our Faith.”  Joyce Jones,  the new Program Director of Racial Harmony for the Catholic Archdiocese of St. Louis, will be presenting and hosting a panel discussion on the racial history and current experience in St. Louis.   She will be speaking on the sin of racism and will use references of Sacred Scripture.  This presentation will explore how relationship building, centered around prayer, education and dialogue, can foster racial harmony in our community.

Please note that this is on a Tuesday evening, not our usual Friday evening.  Also, this program is for both women and men.

Bloom Café is a social enterprise of Paraquad, The Disability Experts, designed to help people with disabilities prepare for employment. The program has three stages:

Training Program: Students complete a 12-week, skills-based curriculum where they study topics, such as food handling and preparation, and learn soft skills, such as customer service and workplace etiquette.
Paid Internship: Students progress to a short-term paid internship at Bloom Café and other restaurants to build skills and experience.
Job Placement: When interns are job-ready, Paraquad assists them in finding and maintaining jobs in the community.

At Bloom Café, we believe everyone should have the opportunity to live and work independently.
